Family Update

Just wanted to pop in and let you know how our little family is doing...

Baby: Liam spent his first night at home yesterday. He did great in his little bassinet. We are going to see the pediatrician today for his first check-up. So far he's a very healthy baby. He's taken to breastfeeding like a champ. He sleeps a lot. He's not too fussy yet. I really can't complain.

Mama: I'm pretty sore all over. I wasn't expecting to feel like this. My entire body is just sore or swollen or in some kind of pain. I'm also a little anemic because of the amount of blood loss I had so getting around is a challenge. I get tired easily. It's kind of a bummer because there's so much I want to do but I really need to take it easy for the next few weeks. Thankfully my mom is here and she's helped out so much. I can't imagine doing it without her.

Papa: Unfortunately, Alex has come down with a cold. Major bummer. He can't be as hands on as he would like because he's achey and tired and doesn't want to harm the baby. We'll see how it goes. Pray for quick healing. He's off from work for the next week so hopefully he can really recover and spend time with Liam.

Jaxon: What a great dog. He's been very obedient and patient. He met Liam yesterday, sniffed him a bit, and lost interest. Maybe when Liam is more mobile they can play together.

That's the update. Thank you to everyone for all the phone calls, text messages, blog comments, facebook comments, etc etc. We feel the love and support. Seriously, thank you!

Hey,

I know you don't know me that well. First, congrats! Second, I can relate to the surprise of being sore. I was not expecting that after all the earthy birthy stuff I read and watched and loved. Ask your midwife, but you can probably take some homeopathics: Arnica for the soreness and Ferrum Phos for the anemia (helps you hold on to iron). Maybe your mom can pick some up at Whole Foods or VitaminShoppe.

It's really great you have your mom with you to help. The first couple weeks are rough, your body has gone through a lot. Make sure you just sleep, eat and drink lots of water. You don't need to worry about anything else, it can wait. :) I'm glad breastfeeding is going well for you. That makes things so much easier!

Levi and Liam will have to get together for a playdate when they get a little older... and the moms recover. :)

Yay!, glad to hear you're doing well, if a bit sore. Your body does go through an awful lot, after all! The good news is that most of the soreness/swelling/etc does go away in a couple of weeks. There'll be a few "things" that'll hang on for a bit longer, but overall by the time he's a month old you should be feeling pretty much back to normal (with bigger, heavier boobs and some added pudge somewhere)!

Take it easy, take care of that baby and make sure you're eating and drinking enough. Don't worry about the house or about entertaining people or about being rude if you don't feel up to doing something that someone wants you to do. You'll be back to normal soon enough...enjoy the early days...they're gone way too quickly!

I'm so glad you and the baby are doing well!!

I was so sore after birth. I couldn't walk straight for a week -I walked with a hunched back. Lol. Even my ribs were sore. My midwife says Ellis must have bruised them a bit. Lovely!

You've received some great advice from these ladies. I'd just like to add that taking some magnesium, calcium tablets should help with your soreness. They help relax your muscles. :)
